A few years ago I managed to save up some money for a treat, and decided that it was time for me to upgrade my mp3 player into something a bit more advanced yet nice and modern and small; hence I decided to purchase an iPod Nano.
== PRICE ==
Now I wouldn't normally spend much on an mp3 player, but as I had a bit of birthday money saved up and had seen how happy my sister was with her iPod I decided to give in and purchase one despite the price tag. At the time of purchase (few years ago) it was priced at around ?120, however now looking around at prices it has considerably lowered in price due to high number of more advanced iPod mp3 devices on the market that have a higher capacity storage. The price for an iPod Nano (2GB) sells from ?25-70 depending on the condition as most for sale are refurbished or second hand. Apple have now replaced this older version of iPod nano with a newer more advanced and one that looks slightly different due to changes in design and prices for the new version start from ?125. Therefore if you can get your hands on a older version of iPod nano at a great price I would say it is worth the ?25-30 price tag.
== DESIGN ==
This iPod Nano despite it being a little older model still looks fresh and modern due to its ultra slim design and small size and glossy finish. The size is similar to a size of a credit card so it more that capable of fitting into small pockets which is great when on the move (W- 4.1 cm, depth-0.7 cm, H- 8.9cm, weight 42g). The screen size although small is more than big enough to view songs/track playlists easily, and along with the coloured 176 x 132 resolution LCD display it makes text and images clearly visible.
Located on the top of the iPod is a silver slide button that locks the ipod during playback and making it very useful when you are on the move and preventing the touch sensitive controls from activating accidently.
It has a wheel control system just below the screen which is touch sensitive. The sensitivity is spot on and I found it very easy to navigate through playlists and modes as the controls are also clearly labelled with symbols such as arrows right, left and play.
There is a headphone socket located on the bottom of the iPod as well as a slot for a USB cable so it can be connect to a PC computer easily for track adding and track organisation.
==OTHER FEATURES/APPLICATIONS ==
Apart from being a digital mp3 player it also has other useful fuctions such as holding contacts, displaying calenders, a stop watch timer and holds digital notes.
It also comes with a couple of games that are stored into the device such as Music Quiz, solitare and Brick. I personally only play the music quiz as it can be quite fun seeing how familiar I am with the music on my iPod.
== ADDING MUSIC AND OVERALL EXPERIENCE ==
Putting music on the ipod is very simple and even a novice can easily get to grips with it in no time. Basically just plug in the USB into a computer and allow the itunes to sync with the software and communicate with the device. Once it has loaded which doesn't take that long at all, all you need to do is drag music from the computer into the ipod itunes screen. You can easily create playlists on the iTunes software and the overall software interface is very easy to follow and to use.
The music is very easy to select and navigate through thanks to the user friendly interface. A simple scroll through tracks can be done by pressing the navigation buttons and then pressing play on the selected track. It of course has the pause, rewind and fast forward function as well as random playback. The sound quality and setup can also be modified by selecting whether you prefer extra bass or pop sounding music. Music is usually organised alphabetically, but it depends on the playlist that is created. I personally find this ipod nano extremely easy to use, and I was more than impressed with its simplicity and the high standard of all functions and modes available. The only downsides would be a 2GB memory, which is only a downside if love to add new music to the nano every few days. I personally found that the 2GB to be enough space to hold enough tracks for me, as I tend to delete tracks I get bored of and replace with newer tracks. The other minor downside if you can call it that is that the device is very easy to scratch and because it is so small I have a few times dropped it and have had a few massive scratches develop, therefore a protective cover or case would easily solve this issue as they are very cheap to buy now.
== VERDICT ==
In conclusion I would recommend this iPod nano (2GB) as it ticks most of the boxes when it comes to wanting an mp3 player; it is small, sleek, easy to use, great design and quality. I would however recommend a larger memory size for those who love their music as the memory would run out quite quickly if adding new tracks and podcasts frequently. The price makes it more than worth it and beats most of the competitors out of the water.
