The following companies all offer schemes which include the sort of
cancellation cover you are looking for. Goodtogoinsurance.com (0844
334 0160; goodtogoinsurance.com)
provides single-trip and annual travel insurance policies for friends
travelling together. Based on a traveller aged 50 with no medical
conditions, prices start at ?15.43 per person for ?Silver?
single-trip cover for two weeks in Europe and ?69.23 per person for ?Silver?
annual cover (worldwide, including the US). The same rates apply to couples
travelling together, whether married, common-law partners or in a long-term
relationship.

Where two people travelling together don?t share the same address, Holidaysafe.co.uk
(0845 658 0570) can also provide joint single or annual policies. A
spokesman points out that the benefits here include more than just
cancellation cover. ?If the person with the medical condition is taken
ill and has to remain in hospital past the holiday return time, the policy
will cover for one travelling companion to remain with them.?

JD Travel (0844 247 4749; jdtravelinsurance.co.uk)
will cover two friends travelling together for cancellation if one falls ill
due to a pre-existing medical condition which is declared and covered under
the policy. For couples or friends buying together, it offers a discount of
around 10 per cent.

World First Travel Insurance (0845 908 0161; world-first.co.uk)
says friends travelling together would be required to insure independently
if they had different residential addresses. But, a spokesman points out, ?where
there?s an interdependency, we?ll cross-reference the policies to show two
people are travelling together?.

Avanti Travel Insurance (0800 066 5604; avanti.co.uk)
allows friends to buy single-trip policies together as long as they are on
the same holiday booking. Both would be covered if one had to cancel due to
illness.

Of course, policies vary so you must check levels of cover and excess charges
before you buy, along with the small print.
