[Abstract]

Objective To determine the implication of the number , distribution and morphologic characterisitics of dendritic cells and the expression of TNF- ? , c-myc in uterine cervical tissue, and the relationship between their expression and clinicopathologic features in cervical cancer. Methods Fifteen cases of normal uterine cervix, fifteen cases cervical epithelial dysplasia and forty cases cervical cancer were identify the distribution of dendritic cells and the expression of TNF- ? , c-myc by immunehistochemical method (SP) Results 1) The number of dendritic cells in cervical epithelial dysplasia (14.80?5.454) and cervical cancer (15.40?9.10) was higher than that in normal uterine cervix (1.0?0.933) (P<0.01) . 2) Dendritic cells show alterations in their density, distribution and morphologic characterisitics in cervical cancer, and their expression was correlated with the age, degree of differentiation, clinic stages and tumor diameter (P<0.05) , but not correlated with ethlic. 3 ) The expression of TNF- a and c-myc in cervical cancer was higher than that in normal uterine cervix and in cervical epithelial dysplasia (P<0.001) . 4) the expression of TNF- ? in cervical cancer was positively related to the clinic stages and tumor diameter, while the expression of c-myc in cervical cancer was positively related to the clinic stages. Conclusion Dendritic cells, TNF- ?, c-myc may play an important role in the pathogenesis and development of cervical squmous carcinoma, and they were tightly correlated with clinicopathologic factors, especially dendritic cells may act as a predictor of prognosis of cervical cancer.
